2012 is the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives. It is being be marked by the co-operative sector worldwide; an opportunity to showcase co-operatives as viable collectively owned democratic businesses that have a profound positive impact on their communities, securing meaningful local jobs, and providing goods and services needed by their communities and society in general.
A steering committee composed of representatives of the sector-Nova Scotia Co-operative Council, Le conseil coopératif acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse, SMU's Masters in Management in Co-operatives and Credit Unions, and the Measuring the Co-operative Difference Research Network (SSHRC-funded CURA), youth representatives and ex-officio persons from government-is leading this great endeavour.
