A symposium on co-operative housing was held at Cape Breton University in partnership with the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council. Speakers included Karen Brodeur of the Nova Scotia office of the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada; Jim Mustard, a councilor from Inverness County, Cape Breton, who is currently involved in a new housing co-op development in that community; John Aylward, who has provided technical assistance to numerous housing co-operatives in Atlantic Canada; and Richard MacKinnon, a folklore professor at Cape Breton University.

Jessica, Lou, and Linda participated in the Cooperating for Change in the International Year of Cooperatives conference in Montreal, presenting on P1-Measuring the impact of credit unions on communities. Abstracts and presentations slides are available on the main research page.
Nicole Bisson and Anna MacNeil began digitizing archival materials related to the history, development, founding and legacy of the co-operative housing movement in Cape Breton at the Beaton Institute. This project will allow researchers across Canada to access these historical materials, including minute books, correspondence, clippings, scrapbooks, and relevant audio files and photographic images from the records of "Father Jimmy" Tompkins, Fr. Moses Coady, Alexander Laidlaw and the Arnold Co-operative.

Catherine Leviten-Reid was interviewed by CBC Information Morning programme on the benefits of co-operatives. Podcast available here.
Catherine Leviten-Reid and Alicia Lake completed twenty interviews related to a co-op housing development for seniors in March and April. A case study on a similar non-profit initiative in the province will begin at the end of May. Results from this research will be presented at the MCDRN Montreal Conference at the end of June.
